Olympic orientation camp rosters have come out, and debate has begun long before the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi are to take place. There have been omissions and questioned additions, but all from a country perspective.

Since it’s July, and training camps are still a while off, let’s take a look at a hypothetical Team Sunbelt Hockey Olympic roster.

There are two conditions:

  • Players must be American.
  • The athletes must currently be a member of a hockey club recognized as a Sunbelt team.

Also, remember that line combinations and defense pairings are by no means meant as guaranteed matches. Positionally, not every center will be at center, not all defense will be on their strongest side, and not all wingers will be on the wings. We’re keeping it simple with the best players available.

Pretty straightforward; nothing complicated. So, if Team Sunbelt Hockey was in the Games, what could their roster look like?

Emerson Etem

Matt Cullen

Dustin Brown C

Bobby Butler

Craig Smith

David Legwand

Erik Cole

Colin Wilson

Ryan Malone

Nick Bjugstad

Trevor Lewis

Adam Burish

David Moss

Justin Faulk

Tim Gleason

Alex Goligoski

Matt Carle

Seth Jones

Keith Yandle

Matt Greene

Jonathan Quick

Ben Bishop

Alex Stalock

Every Sunbelt team is represented on this roster. Jonathan Quick as the stable force between the pipes is about a best-as-it-gets scenario. And that defense looks pretty stacked.

Competition from Team Sunbelt Hockey looks like it’d be pretty solid, doesn’t it?
